As much as we need more than ever an Archeology of Microscopic Theatre (Nele Wynants 2019) within an ever-widening anatomical arena of pathogenic opera where the continuing microscopic reality TV of philosophical toys unfolds, we also need a feuilleton of “Rayonistic Theatre” in terms similar and ready to deflect those blinding ocular/optical rays of what avant-garde artists and theoreticians Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova called a “crossing of reflected rays from various objects“. This is meant in its 1913 expression as both admission and addition of rays that involve a deliberate selection process of (high or low) frequency waves as well as the troubling arrival of the unseen. Lazers, Cosmic Rays, Gamma Rays, UVs, The Death Ray, X-rays, Z-rays, Microwaves have been busily caressing, irradiating and electrocuting, buzzing and humming, lazily blinking or drowsily swarming around the swarmers (the devices themselves). Sometimes candescent, otherwise no heat emitting, sometimes iridescent or indifferent and passing trough, knocking off and reflecting wide concerns of what has become increasingly a non-tangible, tanning and dangerous, inducing both bronze, grotesque mutagenesis and frivolous irretrievable DNA damage.
The role of this, let’s call it Rayonistic Zoo is to act as a silhouette- and shadow world of the Particle Zoo, non-interacting and still being able to reflect by what has been absconded. The increasing role of the invisible didn’t diminish but has been gaining momentum from the early electric and magnetic theology (Goclenius, Kircher, Friedrich Oetinger, Fricker, Divisch, Franklin, Mesmer) to the self-zapping, self-electrocuting, juicing, energy-sucking insatiable world-wirelessing wizards (Ritter, Tesla, Steinmetz, Edison). On the stage of the Rayonistic Theater the untouchable and highly influent high frequency/harmonics play an important part, celebrating not the triumph of vision as in the earlier ocular/optical or sonic/audible stages, but an increasing need for opacity in the face of all-out transparency, suspiciously allowing the invisible to play a conspirative part in the very nature and fabric of our reality as well as within the popular and ‘Gee-Whiz’ technologies, the concerned and for those on the Science and Science Fictional end of the imaginary spectrum.
The COVID 19 conspiratorial matrix points out to the foaming of conjoined rabid impossibilities and a stewy brew of improbabilities that have been bundled together variously as “capitalist math”, computational imagination or “quantitative capital” and/or as pertinently named “sonic episteme” or “acoustic resonance”(Robin James 2019). This could well the first good description of what might be a unifying ontology of the vibrational resonant and harmonizing with high-frequency flash trading ‘latency’ that seems to thrive on fake FTL or wishful superluminal infringement, riding high on quantum entanglement attempts at financialization.
As such, the vilified branch of math called probabilistic statistics that seems to play an inordinate role in current Small-Big microcosmic-macrocosmic data-fictions finds recursive redeployment against its own arithmetic obsolescence and numerical disaffection (Alexander Galloway 2019). In spite of all its initial blank page whiteness, one should invert the contrast, so that the above graphic of Inner and Outer immunology would offer a key to the nocturnal realm of subsonic pervasiveness, of the fact that the audible is always a limited (psychoacoustically human) part of wide tail-end of non-sonic and sub- or ultra- sonic wavelenghts. Not so much differentiation of the analog real from the proto-digital is needed, but a memefication of concurring aspects of the audible that otherwise risk to get drowned and remain totally parasitic on high-frequency inaudible microwave transmission, interference and amplification. This might help us better grasp how such harmonics subsist and persist in a multifront undulatory breaching almost on the wing.
Human arson attacks at masts of G5 technologies only seem to indicate how and where the tele- axis mundi importance rests within the new telecom mobile phone cosmography. While these may indeed be completely ill-spent endeavors with limited results, they point towards an important vibrational ontology beyond the visible and audible. Again we may witness an improbable conspiratorial syncretic expression of an otherwise expansive opacity via separate particulate matter diffuseness of epochal PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ as well as the sudden realization that at high-level frequencies, everything interferes, blocks out or plays with and even manages to befuddle attempts at remote sensing. Its most worrisome aspect lies indeed elsewhere than in blunt mind control. In fact, human neuronal capacities have been well-integrated with and surpassed by the seamless technologies of vision (“traffic and thermal cameras, drones and other automated vehicles, smartphones and QR codes, etc”) being currently reoriented both by the COVID-19 outbreak in China as well as within the increasingly desperate efforts to measure and quantify an evolving climate change state of exception. Complaints from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) group offer a stark warning about a general lack of radio-frequency coordination and the need to protect the range of so-called “crown jewel” frequencies, especially the ones near 24 Gigahertz. The 5G involves many more frequencies but water vapor in the atmosphere produces itself a weak signal at this 23.8 gigahertz frequency which weather satellites use to measure humidity (Alexandra Witze 2019). The profitable auctioning of various chunks of the 5G spectrum brings us to this single but crucial example, as 5G High-frequency/harmonics take more of the available spectrum they start interfering with passive remote sensing. The move from the old direct surveillance panopticon to the “panspectron” (Roger Creemers 2017) of constantly intersecting streams of ambient data would then foster temporary ambient remote sensing blind spots (Gabriele de Seta 2020) and severe ones at that, by increasing a reduction in our ability for gathering climate data and weather forecasting. Fear of data degradation grows as interference with crucial water vapor monitoring via weather and earth observation satellites becomes likely so much so that meteorologists have proposed a reduction of the noise allowed to leak from G5 transmissions. Long negotiations have settled for a standard value proposal according to European recommendations of –33 decibel watts buffer noise level until 1 September 2027, although some meteorologists complain it is still not sufficiently low and that it might still interfere with water vapor data measurements. Passive remote sensing shows us how we can think about the full spectrum of planetary high-frequency ecology.
Such non-audible high-frequency broadband maximalism has been already taken to a high art by various others – more than 1000 species of Chiropterans, those first members of that large order of mammalian, mostly nocturnal animals that have taken to the air more than 50 million years ago during the warming up of the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). A small first flight flutter in bat evolution and a big step in mammalian terms points to later echolocation and sensorimotor perceptual development, now in lockstep with flight as well as with the subsequent loss of laryngeal echolocating capacity in important non-insect pollinators such as the megabats, only to be regained during evolution among other bat lineages.
This first flutter of mammalian bat flight has been celebrated by German astronauts 1993 that carried a Grube Messel(a famous Lagerstatte) bat fossil during their flight onboard a spaceflight. At the same time, the aerial is the forgotten kindergarten of the most advanced mammalian sensorimotor evolutionary developmental biotechnologies. Laryngeal echolocation is not only available as a biomimicry prototype, as the history of technology (still a largely anthropocentric account) would make us believe, but as deep time biosonar media, a resonant evolutionary disposition towards runaway high-frequency waveforms repeatedly allowing bouncing on and off, in-flight immunity systems and dense inter-species cavernicolous conurbation. The bat virome biodiversity spillover is scaled up by capitalist cheap flight availability, although it has evolved, recombined and proliferated amongst highly mobile, nocturnal echolocating chiropteran Agent-Networks. The zoonotic (human-infecting viruses) per bat host is this slightly higher than in rodent hosts, probably the most numerous small mammals on earth. Each bat virus, on average, infects 4.51 bat species, while each rodent virus infects only 2.76 rodent species. Some have linked viral diversity in bats to precisely one major factor: bat population sympatry, where multiple species of the same order of animal inhabit the same geographic area, enabling jumps from one related species to another. Host habitat ranges for the different virus-carrying bat species tend to overlap. Bats like humans in cities or pigs in farms also live in very high-density swarms and in close proximity to one another and spillovers never happen once but on a regular basis, they come and go, moving in successive waves.
